N.E. on main road for 0.5 miles past White Castle, just where road
crosses another small river a branch road goes off to N.W in 300
yds., turn abruptly W. for 100 yds., turn abruptly again to N.W.
In less than 0.5 miles track leads through fields to Mullaghard.
Site lies in large field between it and Magherard. Arable. Near
top of slope with wonderful view.
The monument has largely disappeared since the map was made. There
is now only one standing stone on a slight mound with stones, one
or two large, but mostly loose as though off the field. The stone
is angled and rather broken.
Measurements: 6ft. 6 ins x 1 ft. 8 ins x 2 ft.
St. Columb's R.C. Church
O.5 miles further along same main road to Moville. On slope of hill
on N.W. side of road. Arable. Fine view above lough shore.
There is no particular antiquarian interest in this site, but Maghtochair
tells an interesting story about it and its predecessor. The ivy-covered
gable of the old church may be seen in the graveyard.
