"I was born in Crockglass in 1945 and we were always told
that the name did mean "green hill". The townland was
entirely rural and devoted to farming. Our farm was 17 acres, fairly
average size. The hilly part of the townland, leading up to Crockglass
Hill itself, was used to graze sheep. There were few houses there
at that time. The families who lived there were McLaughlins, Grants,
Currans (pronounced "corn"), and Allens. All were Catholics".
