7th Annual Self Help Africa Charity Row - Prehen to Greencastle
The 7th Annual Derry to Greencastle Row will take place on Saturday 17th September. The event which is in aid of Self Help Africa has been described as one of the stand out annual activities for the organisation in the North West.
It is organised each year by Whitecastle man Albert Doherty and has raised thousands iof euros for African development. The row from Prehen to Greencastle also attracts rowers or organisations and individuals from all over the country as well as a huge crowd of supporters.
Ray Jordan - Chief Executive of Self Help Africa said that in recent times the support of the people of Donegal "by oarsmen, organisers and members of the public" for the row had "contributed greatly" to their rural development work in Kenya, Uganda and Zambia. He added: the row "organised diligently and with great effort by Albert, had raised tens of thousands of euro to support their work among some of Africa's poorest communities.
Self Help Africa works with rural farming communities to help people grow more food and earn a living.
