Money to aid Donegal Elderly

Donegal's elderly are to benefit from the first round of grants for 2005 under the scheme for Community Supports for Older People. Deputy Cecilia Keaveney said she learned of the news from Noel Ahern, Minister of State of the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

"This announcement has come earlier in the year than expected and is very welcome. "A total of seven community alert or neighbourhood watch schemes have been approved for funding, including Moville Community Alert Group in my own constituency. "These initiatives are vital in improving the security and social support of older individuals in our society and are delivered by local community and voluntary groups must be commended for their dedication and commitment to the older people in our communities." Said Deputy Keaveney.
