Cold Weather in Donegal
The recent cold snap so early in the winter which saw temperatures
drop below freezing for ten days with winds at times sweeping down
from the Arctic at up to 80mph, brought only a dusting of snow to
north Inishowen. However the driving winds brought heavy seas pounding
the north Inishowen coastline and the waves which came over the
sea wall at Bunagee were the highest for decades.
The Chairman of Donegal County Council, Dessie Larkin has said
that Met Eireann should be made aware of the significance of severe
weather warnings for places like Donegal. His comments came following
the forecasts of heavy snows for the county in recent weeks, a forecast
that subsequently proved not to be as severe as predicted. However
by that stage some conferences due to be held in the county had
been cancelled with a huge loss of revenue to hotels. "They
should be asked to review their warnings every hour in such cases",
he said.
