IRDL Launch planned for dyslexia campaign
The new dyslexia campaign for children in Inishowen will get off
the mark officially at the offices of IRDL in Carndonagh next month
- when Author Stephen Joyce hands over his first cheque for €1,000.
"I have deliberately chosen the IRDL offices to hand over
the first cheque." said Stephen from his office in Glasgow,
"because that's where I first found out about the work of Solas
and Action Inishowen who will both benefit from on going sales of
my book "Golden Days in Donegal". These two groups are
trying to respond to the needs of dyslexic children and their families
and it was only through my dealings with IRDL that I found out about
their excellent, difficult community work. It's very fitting then
that the first cheque should be presented there to the two organisations.
Stephen is delighted that IRDL have taken imaginative steps to
building up the Scottish Connection with Donegal and have now created
formal links with the new Scottish Executive to share resources
in promoting Inishowen's tourist, business and shared Celtic culture.
It is very important that the economic and tourist potential of
Inishowen is being recognised through the work of IRDL as it can
only benefit the local economy and help create and sustain employment
across the peninsula.
Stephen hopes that the presentation of the first cheque to Solas
and Action Inishowen at IRDL will give another kick-start to the
dyslexia campaign. He is now organising that sales of the book will
go nationwide through a professional company so that he will soon
be back presenting his next cheque to support the dyslexia campaign.
He is also delighted that young Inishowen people will be involved
to support the campaign when the schools go back in a few weeks
time.
