Redcastle lift Pat McLaughlin Memorial Cup

The inaugural Pat McLaughlin Memorial Cup was won by Redcastle
at the weekend following their come from behind victory over Carrowmena
at Chapel Lane, Greencastle.
John Canning's Premier Division newcomers took the lead ten minutes
into the second half when Jimmy Lafferty was taken down in the penalty
area and ex-Moville midfielder Charlie Gill converted the penalty.
Fifteen minutes later Redcastle equalised when Paul McGowan finished
well from 15 yards.
Ten minutes from time Brian Bell's side took the lead when Charlie
McCormick tapped in a Mark Davenport cross.
Carrowmena pressed for an equaliser and Nigel McMonagle missed
a good change to equalise but the Foylesiders held to ensure theirs'
was the first name in the trophy.
Tournament organiser Pat McLaughlin said "There was a great
crowd there and the four teams showed a great interest. The final
was a very good contest and both teams looked very fit. I'm happy
with the way everything went and we'll be holding the tournament
again next summer."
