By Inish Times

The inaugural Pat McLaughlin Memorial Cup was won by Redcastle at the weekend following their come from behind victory over Carrowmena at Chapel Lane, Greencastle.

John Canning's Premier Division newcomers took the lead ten minutes into the second half when Jimmy Lafferty was taken down in the penalty area and ex-Moville midfielder Charlie Gill converted the penalty.

Fifteen minutes later Redcastle equalised when Paul McGowan finished well from 15 yards.

Ten minutes from time Brian Bell's side took the lead when Charlie McCormick tapped in a Mark Davenport cross.

Carrowmena pressed for an equaliser and Nigel McMonagle missed a good change to equalise but the Foylesiders held to ensure theirs' was the first name in the trophy.

Tournament organiser Pat McLaughlin said "There was a great crowd there and the four teams showed a great interest. The final was a very good contest and both teams looked very fit. I'm happy with the way everything went and we'll be holding the tournament again next summer."
