OCTOBER 2007
Inishowen Community Radio Concert
A grand Variety Concert featuring the best of local talent will
take place in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel on Thursday 25th October.
This great night of music and dancing is a joint fund raising effort
organised between ICRfm, based in Carndonagh and the proposed new
station ICR South to be located in Buncrana. They ran a similar
concert in the Plaza last April and everyone who attended enjoyed
it immensely.
ICR has been broadcasting in the north of the peninsula since 2000
and the proposed new station ICR South, is scheduled to come on
air early next year to provide a service to the South Inishowen
area. The new station will be based in the Tullyarvan Mill, Buncrana.
Among the list of local artists will be the ever popular Country
Boys, renowned singer/songwriter Patsy Cavanagh from Greencastle,
and Buncrana is well presented by Tommy Cuffe, Brian Porter and
Maria Doherty.
Popular ICR country music presenter Hugh McGettigan and Peter Donegan
fly the flag for Carndonagh while rising star Michael Douglas hails
from Redcastle, Derry's Mena Bradley returns by popular demand,
while Johnny Haughey from Ballybofey and the duets from Mayo complete
the bill. A great night of music is in store for country music fans
and it will also give the community a chance to show their support
for community radio in Inishowen in a practical way - by giving
it a much-needed financial digout. Both stations will use the money
raised from the night to buy essential broadcast equipment and help
towards running costs.
Jim Doherty, who is Station Manager at ICR and chairperson of ICR
south, believes that this event will help promote both the artists
involved and the concept of community radio in the area: "All
of the artists appearing on the night are from the local community
and we're grateful for their support. In fact, I can't thank them
enough as they're all giving up their night and playing for free.
Even if you can't come along on the night - buy a ticket! Show your
support for community radio!"
The concert gets underway at 8.30 and the admission charge is only
€10. Tickets are available at Bradleys Eurospar, McLaughlin
Holmes Filling Station Ludden, Inishowen Gateway Hotel Buncrana
and at the ICR Studios Carndonagh tel. 9329105.
