Sightings of seal pups

There have been a number of sightings of seal pups on Inishowen beaches in recent weeks, and The Irish Seal Sanctuary have warned the people of Inishowen people not to approach stranded seals. A pup rescued from Culdaff beach last week later died of his injuries.

Donegal representative of the seal sanctuary, Hilary McMenamin, said seals can be aggressive."A seal was once stranded on sand dunes on an Inishowen beach. The ranger was called and found it in good health but it was very angry. If you see a seal, don't go near it and don't let dogs near them. If it is healthy it will eventually go back in. You can call myself on 087 672 0383 or the seal sanctuary on 01 835 4370. The Irish Seal Sanctuary would like to thank everyone in Inishowen and Donegal as they have always been fantastic at reporting seal sightings."
