DECEMBER 2007

Local Committees working together

A meeting of all the Event Committees took place this week in Moville to coordinate their marketing and PR efforts. The Committees decided they would act in unison in terms of getting the message out to the rest of the world about what events would be taking place in Moville, instead of individual committees going their own separate ways.

The new Committee, consisting of the heads of all the various committees, will be called Moville Events. The Committees involved are Regatta, Raft, Vintage Car, Vintage Agriculture, Foyle Rowing Club, St. Patrick's Day Parade, Christmas Tree Committee, Greencastle Regatta, DylanFest & BeatlesFest and Shrove Regatta. Appointed were Eamon McLaughlin, Chairman, Gerry McLaughlin, Secretary and Sammy Lyle as Public Relations and Treasurer.

Gerry McLaughin of the DylanFest Committee said, "Every time people come to Moville that is our great selling opportunity. When people come for the Traditional Irish Music Festival in mid-February there should be posters and brochures around Moville that let them see what other events will be taking place. Some of those people will have come to Moville and liked it and may be looking for other good opportunities to come back when there is something else on. They can also help spread the word about what is going on in Moville in the local area. They may be Trad Music fans but also like Dylan or have an interest in yachting or vintage cars or machinery. They may be looking to have a week's holiday in Moville and the Moville Summer Festival may be a good opportunity for them. It is a great opportunity for marketing."

A quote has already been obtained for 5,000 brochures and it is hoped to have them in the pubs and shops of Moville when people come down from Derry etc. over the Christmas holiday. There is great hope that Moville will start to attract holiday makers in much greater numbers for its enticing series of events throughout the year starting with the Traditional Music Festival in February.
