Ciara Hegarty is off to Germany
Teenage soccer sensation Ciara Hegarty, from Moville, has earned
her first full Ireland cap. Ciara, a talented left midfielder, has
been named in the ladies under 15 side that will play Germany, Russia
and Denmark in Germany next week.
Ciara also a member of Donegal's Ulster title winning GAA side,
played in the Irish under 15 schools squad that beat Belgium 1 -
0 in May. She has graduated to the under 15 side proper after doing
well at a series of trials in Longford and Dublin.
"I'm really pleased, the training has been going well, and
I'm glad things are moving in the right direct. This squad has a
lot of the girls from the schools team on it, so I felt quite comfortable
at the trials." said Ciara.
Paddy Hannon, coach of the Greencastle under 16 ladies team of
which Ciara is a member, said the achievement was well deserved.
"I'm so pleased for Ciara," he said, "She's been
playing football with Greencastle for almost five years, and has
improved so much over the years. "I'm convinced she will get
a run out in Germany next week. She's got a great left foot, and
players like that are hard to come by. She has the heart of a lion,
you can be guaranteed that she'll give 100 percent when she's got
the green jersey on."
