OCTOBER 2009
Halloween Haunted House
Zombie nurses, ghoulish apparitions and Beelzebub himself have
been spotted in Burnfoot, but before you start sprinkling the Holy
Water, you might want to give in to your fears instead. The ghostly
goings on are part of the Halloween Haunted House, an exciting new
show at the Halfway House in Burnfoot, which is open to the public
from Wednesday 21st October.
The extravaganza, the brainchild of Pauric Gallagher from Inch and
Buncrana's Phil Ruddock, has been in the making for seven months,
from the design stage through construction of the set and rehearsal
of the show with the volunteers actors and their backstage support
crew. Phil and Pauric have run a similar Halloween show on a much
smaller scale at the Ballycolman Community Centre in Strabane over
the last three years and after securing the spacious hall at the
Halfway House they set about bringing their twisted visions to life.
The majority of the props and set for the show were made at Phil's
home on St Mary's Road in Buncrana.
A trip through the Halloween Haunted House lasts less than ten minutes,
but that might seem a lot longer as you make your way through the
haunted graveyard, claustrophobic unlit corridors and unsettling
hotel rooms. You will see dead people. Over 20 ghouls inhabit the
Halloween Haunted House.
Phil and Pauric have gone all-out to create their world of illusion,
with impressive special effects and realistic looking make up. The
devil will be perched on the roof of the haunted house calling on
passers by to enter, if they dare.
Horror movie buffs will find lots to enjoy with the creators paying
homage to some of the silver screens most chilling cinema moments
throughout the show.
The Halloween Haunted House is open daily until the 31st October.
There are two different shows, a kids performance from 4-8pm and
an adults show from 9pm to midnight. It costs €5 for kids and
€7 for adults. Tickets available on the door. Pre-booking unavailable.
Concessions are available for families and school groups. If the
show is a success, its hoped to run it every Halloween.
It's all go for the business partners between now and the end of
the year. The duo, who are also involved in Greasepaint's upcoming
Buncrana production of the Wizard of Oz, will open Santa's Winter
Wonderland, complete with life sized polar bear model, in Inishowen
later this year.
