Appeal for walkers and runners

The Donegal Ladies 5k committee is appealing for walkers/runners across Donegal to attend their walk/run which will be taking place in Letterkenny on Sunday 25th October 2009. Starting time will be 11.30am. Entries to be taken at LYIT from 10.30am. Free t-shirts will be provided for all participants. Sponsorship cards are currently available or entree fee on the day is €10.

Sara Donovan, Manager of the Donegal Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre who will benefit from the run and walk said: "As with all community and voluntary sector organisations, we constantly have to raise additional funds to keep our service as effective as possible. We would appeal to everyone to consider joining us on the walk/run on the 25th October to make the day a success.

The ethos of the centre is volunteered-based and so we always rely on the generosity of Donegal people." She added that the voluntary organisation provides a free support and counselling service to both female and male survivors of rape and sexual violence in the county.

"While the core funding of the service comes from the HSE there are other vital elements that need to be funded separately such as maintaining the strength of the service across the county."
