JULY 2009

Party in the Point

No plans for next Thursday night the 23rd July? Then why not get yourself along to the 'Party in the Point' in Foody's Lodge, Quigley's Point. 6 of Inishowen's finest DJ's have kindly offered to give up their free time to perform a set on the night to help support a couple of local causes. The line up includes Jason Young, Justiy, Kevin McGrath, DJ Pajo, Connor Jay and Matt Navero. The Cavanagh Brothers, Kevin and Colm, are supplying their PA system and also acting as sound engineers on the night.

The night is being organised by Inishowen Community Radio. Assistant Manager Emma McDermott said "whilst ICR has run a number of successful fund-raising concerts in recent years, we decided we should hold some events which would appeal to the station's younger listeners in the area. To that end we've organised the upcoming event in Foody's Lodge and also an acoustic night in McGrory's for September".

The 'Party in the Point' promises to be a night to remember and tickets are already selling fast. Tickets are available from staff and volunteers at the station - or you can telephone ICR on (93) 29105. The first DJ begins at 9pm on the night and people are advised to get there early.

Susan Logue another of the event organisers said "there's already a great buzz about the night so we're hoping it goes well. Lots of volunteers and staff at the station have been pitching in to lend a hand with various aspects of the night including designing posters and promotional materials, sourcing prizes and of course selling tickets."

Inishowen Community Radio is a not-for-profit organisation and as such relies on fundraising to help with running costs and of course to enable the station to continue supplying the excellent services that is does to the community of Inishowen. Community radio gives a voice to local community organisations and groups allowing them access to the airwaves to help promote the fantastic work that they do. Community radio is also a very cheap form of advertising. ICR also offers invaluable work experience and media training to people in the area. Anyone can get involved in the station, after all it's 'Your Community, Your Radio'. So if you would like to try your hand at presenting, help out with any of our speech-based shows or any aspect of station life then simply get in touch via phone or email studio@icrmf.ie.

Proceeds from the 'Party in the Point' will also go to the East Inishowen Special Needs Group to help build a playground at the James Connelly Memorial Hospital in Carn. Spokesman for the group Sean McCauley said "East Inishowen Special Needs Company Ltd are extremely grateful to ICRfm and all our other fundraisers over the last few years. Special thanks to the DJs and staff at ICRfm for their help and assistance in the past and at present. Funds raised from this disco will go to a play park in Carndonagh for children with special needs, everyone is welcome to come and support this event to make The Party In The Point a fantastic night".

"We decided it would be good if two local organisations benefited from the proceeds of the night. The East Inishowen Special Needs Group is a very worthy cause and is close to the hearts of many people in the community here" said ICR's Marie McDonald.

Eddie McLaughlin added "we're grateful to everyone who has gotten involved in any way to help with the night, we're all really looking forward to it."

Even if you know you can't attend on the night you can still be in with a chance of winning a fabulous prize by buying a ticket for the event. So to get your hands on a ticket simply accost any ICR volunteer or staff member or phone the station on (93) 29105. See you there!
