New NCT Testing Centre to Open in Inishowen

Inishowen will have its own NCT Centre from the beginning of January 2010. The new NCT Centre will begin operating at Liss, Carndonagh from Tuesday 12th January providing a much needed local centre for motorists to test their car in the peninsula.

This will be the 45th NCT centre opened in the Republic and the 4th to open in Donegal with centres already operating in Letterkenny, Donegal Town and Derrybeg.

The development is more than merited by the geographical considerations particular to Inishowen and County Donegal and by the fact that Inishowen has 25% of the County's motorists.

Welcoming the news Deputy Mayor Charlie McConalogue said, "It was a lot to ask of motorists to travel from as far as Malin to Letterkenny, and in many cases twice in the case of a recheck in order to obtain their NCT. The large backlog that developed over last summer made the situation particularly pressing and this new centre in the peninsula will hopefully prevent long waiting lists in the County from now on. The news is particulary good news for Carndonagh and the centres sitting in the town makes sense for the peninsula being as central a location as possible. We must however ensure that traffic to and from the centre is managed so as to ensure that cars use the signed routes and prevent unneccessary traffic on minor local roads in the area.
