Christmas Holidays Come Early For Inishowen School Children
The Christmas Holiday season has arrived a few days early for a
lot of the pupils in the Inishowen peninsula. As the big freeze
continues, to much of the students delight, it has forced many schools
to close up early and has disruption on the roads for many commuters.
Inishowen has been in the grip of snow and freezing conditions since
the weekend and there appears to be no let up in the weather any
time soon. Met Eireann is expecting the sub zero temperatures to
remain at least up to this weekend. Temperatures are estimated to
drop well below freezing in the next few nights to around about
-5 or -6 degrees expected in some areas.
People are urged to take extra care on the roads when driving as
icy conditions and poor visibility have been a major factor in some
minor crashes around the peninsula. Donegal County Council have
will continue to grit the roads twice daily. In some areas it has
been suggested that people only travel if it is really necessary.
The weather is set to improve slightly on Christmas Day with most
of the laying snow and ice gone by the afternoon. Maybe Inishowen
will have to wait another year for a 'white christmas'.
