NOVEMBER 2008
Support for Cancer Care
Maureen Green from Inch is on the look out for your old brassieres
for a one of a kind fundraising appeal in aid of breast cancer awareness.
Cancer Care West in Galway and the Mayo Cancer Support Group are
in a bid to break the current bra chain record in the Guinness Book
of Records.
Maureen is confident, with the help of women across Inishowen,
thousands of bras will be collected to help beat the current record,
held by Cyprus, which strung together a massive 114,000 brassieres.
Ireland needs at least 120,000 and Maureen said the group are also
asking people to donate one euro for each bra to help raise funds
for cancer research. And with bra bins set up across the peninsula
she is hoping women will swing on into the shops and drop in their
old undergarment for the special cross my heart appeal.
There are a number of drop-off points in Buncrana, including Mac's
book store, Grant's shoe shop, Brennan's Pharmacy at Ardavan Square,
and Angels Above on Main Street.
Additionally, Bradley's service station in Fahan, on the Buncrana-Derry
Road, and the Post Office in Burnfoot are supporting the efforts
as well. Area shops, businesses and other organisations are being
asked to sponsor a "Bring a bra to work day" asking employees
to gather as many bras and euros as they can from family and friends
for a 'bra bin bag' collection by no later than the 13th November.
If a company decided to do a sponsorship, they should count the
bras and euros and put the information along with their name on
a note and include it in the bin bag, so that it can be properly
acknowledged. Bin bags will be picked up by a volunteer, by calling
Maureen Green at 074 9360556.
It is planned that the Inishowen Chain will be brought to Mayo
on 15th November for inclusion.
For more information call Maureen on the above number.
