December 2008
Official opening of Moville Fire Station
The Mayor of Donegal, councillor Gerry Crawford will be in Moville
on Monday 15th December, to perform the official opening of the
new Fire Station in the town.
The new Moville station was announced as part of a package that
saw fourteen new stations provided around the country, and was widely
welcomed locally.
Finding a suitable location for the new two-bay station did prove
to initially cause a few difficulties, but once a suitable site
was identified at Derry Road, work began on the new two-bay station
which was estimated to cost in excess of €700,000.
Five officers moved from their old base at Crawford Square to their
new station on Derry Road last November and the station became the
third new facility to open in Inishowen since 2001, after Buncrana
and Carndonagh.
Patsy Wilson, Station Officer, said it was a good day for the Moville
fire service. "We have been waiting for this day for a long
time. The new station is first class, as good as you'd find anywhere.
It's a massive improvement on what we had and I'd like to thank
everyone involved in the project from the start.
Although the station has been fully functioning since last year,
the official opening will not take place until Monday afternoon
and a large crowd is expected to wish the local firemen well in
their new station.
