Moville Community College to participate in 'Key Programme'
The 'Key Programme' is run by Youth Enterprise Northern Ireland
in partnership with Junior Achievement Ireland and supported by
the International Fund for Ireland. The programme is aimed at making
a positive impact on young people's lives at a critical stage of
their development and this is done through cross-community interaction.
Twelve Transition year students from Moville Community College have
been successfully selected to participate in the programme for the
second year running. Along with MCC, the 'Little Flower' Girls'
College and 'Ballee Presbyterian school, Belfast were chosen.
Before obtaining a place on the programme the participating students
had to write a letter to both the principal and TY co-ordinator
of the college, telling them why they should attend the programme
Following this, a trained facilitator was invited to the school
on behalf of the programme, to talk to the students about it. The
programme teaches them many vital and necessary skills, which can
be applied to their daily life. The programme uses outdoor adventure
activities such as canoeing, orienteering and various obstacle courses
in a bid to focus the youths on the importance of everyday skills
such as communication and leadership, while also helping them develop
a healthy and positive attitude to life.
The group's first trip took place on 27th September to 29th September
to Corrymeela, accompanied by Ms. N. Doherty, TY Co-ordinator. Here
they participated in the many outdoor activities that the programme
offers. Over the course of the two days, the students were split
into different groups where they mingled and got to know students
from the other schools, while at the same time undertaking the various
tasks that the programme promotes.
The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are already looking
forward to the next trip, which will take place in late November.
