OCTOBER 2006
Carndonagh Community School hosts careers exhibition
On Thursday 26th October, for the second year running, Carndonagh
Community School hosted a major Career Information Exhibition called
'Inishowen Future Options' in the school gym.
The event was set up last year to reduce the travel Inishowen students
would have to undertake to attend open days and career exhibitions
in Dublin, Belfast and other centres. The event was an unqualified
success, with hundreds of fifth year, sixth year and PLC students
from Carndonagh, Community School, Crana College, Moville Community
College and Scoil Mhuire attending. Students from the Youthreach
programme in the Buncrana Adult Education Centre and Glengad Training
Centre also attended.
Almost 40 colleges, training organisations and employers from both
the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland were in attendance
and admissions officers/student liaison officers were kept busy
distributing CD Roms, copies of prospectuses and other career and
course information to the eager students, as well as answering any
detailed questions that students had. Parents, guardians and members
of the public were also attracted to the event and availed of the
opportunity to meet with college personnel.
Mr. Paul Fiorentini, Principal of Carndonagh Community School,
thanked the Institutes for taking the time to come to Inishowen
for the event, reminding them that they now would have some idea
of the effort and time it takes our students to attend their college
Open Days.
