Primary Schools to get €2,000 for PE Equipment
Every primary school in Donegal will be given €2,000 in the
coming weeks to upgrade or replace their PE equipment according
to local Fianna Fáil TD Niall Blaney.
"The move is part of a 6.5 million package provided by my
Fianna Fáil college, Education Minister Mary Hanafin TD,
aimed at giving primary school children access to the best possible
PE equipment." said Deputy Blaney. He also said that Physical
Education is a vital element of learning and well-being for school
children and this grant will help primary schools throughout Donegal
to install high-quality PE equipment in their schools. "Together
with the Clár School Outdoor Play Facilities Enhancement
Scheme, which has immeasurable improved outdoor PE facilities in
many of the county's primary schools, this package demonstrates
the Government's commitment to the welfare of every child in every
school."
Deputy Blaney said that research shows that children who take part
in sports and recreation lead happier lives - they learn to mix
with their peers and work as a team in an enjoyable social environment
where participation is more important that winning.
I am delighted to be able to announce these grants to primary schools
in the county and I hope they will make full use of the funding."
said Deputy Blaney.
