NOVEMBER 2006
Permanent Breast Surgeon for Letterkenny General Hospital
Deputy Niall Blaney has welcomed the news that the HSE has approved
the appointment of a permanent Breast Surgeon for Letterkenny General
Hospital, with the position due to be advertised early in the new
year.
Blaney stated that he would like to point out that this is just
a post at this point and not the appointment of an individual to
the post. "The HSE has assured me that they will do all in
their power to expedite the appointment of the new permanent Breast
Surgeon. This is more good news for Letterkenny General Hospital
with an eleven bed oncology ward officially opened in May of this
year and the provision of a thirty bed modular short stay ward and
new purpose built Emergency Department and twelve bay Medical Assessment
Unit currently at design stage."
Deputy Blaney said that we are in a very good position in Donegal
with major improvements in our health service in recent times ad
a lot more due in the future. "The news of this post will be
very welcome by those families that have experience of Breast Cancer
as they know the benefit of having these services available in their
own locality."
He concluded by saying the appointment of a permanent breast surgeon
has been widely publicised in recent times by DACC and said they
must be commended on their relentless efforts to have health pushed
to the top of the agenda in Donegal.
