Funding for Inishowen Groups
Cecilia Keaveney TD has welcomed the announcement by her party
colleague, Mr. Eamon Ó Cuív TD, Minister for Community
Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs that 125 new groups will be included
in the Community Services Programme with a budget this year of 42
million rising to 52 million in 2007. Commenting on the announcement,
Cecilia said, "Four of the seven projects for Donegal are based
in Inishowen and I believe this reflects Minister Ó Cuív's
sincere interest in developing and sustaining rural communities.
Indeed, he has visited the peninsula on a number of occasions during
the past couple of years. Seeing first hand the calibre of groups
that we have to deliver projects definitely yields result when it
come to allocating funding."
Deputy Keaveney said she was delighted that Action Inishowen, Carndonagh;
Malin Head Community Association, Malin: South Inishowen Community
Radio, Buncrana; and Muff Community Development Co-op Muff, have
all been successfully included in the expansion of the programme.
The Community Services Programme aims to support local community
activity which addresses disadvantage while at the same time providing
employment opportunities for people with disabilities, long term
unemployed, travellers and lone parents, CSP employees are paid
the minimum wage and have the option of working either full time
or part-time. A variety of projects are delivered under this programme
including community childcare services, services for the elderly
and for people with disabilities, rural transport, managing community
halls, rural tourism, community radio and recycling and environmental
projects. "This programme is an important source of community-led
employment and initiatives delivered at local level for the benefit
of local people," said Keaveney
