AUGUST 2006
Carndonagh Man to Walk for 'Untouchables' of India
Anthony Conaghan is going out to India with "Action with Effect"
in September with seven others from Derry and Inishowen. Action
with Effect provides loving care for destitute lepers, orphans, and
street children in India. A retired teacher from Carndonagh, Anthony
says "The only hope of escape from lifelong destitution for
'untouchable' children is education: there simply is no other means,
except perhaps a life of crime".
Over the last couple of months Anthony has been actively involved
in raising fund for this extremely worthwhile project. Anatomy acknowledges
the support of his family, friends and the people of Inishowen,
"Without their support it would be difficult to raise awareness
and funds".
Well known local historian and Hill Walker Dessie McCallion will
guide an afternoon of Hillwalking, Music and "Craic" on
the Sunday 27th August to help raise funds for the project. The
walk will start at 2pm in the Wee House, Magheramore, Carndonagh,
and will proceed through Inishnaneill onto open hard-track hill
ground. The walk will be 7.5k (4.5 miles) and will suite moderately
fit adults of all ages. Proper footwear and rainwear is advisable.
After the walk there will be refreshments, music and 'craic' in
The Wee House in Magheramore. Joe MacLaughlin from Malin and Eamonn
MacGonagle will provide the music.
