MARCH 2010
Local Students Awarded - Pope John Paul II Gold Award
Congratulations to all the local students at Moville Community
College who recently received their Pope John Paul II Gold Awards.
The event was the 3rd Annual ceremony and was held in the Millennium
Forum in Derry on 1st & 2nd March.
Certificates were presented to the students by Bishop Hegarty (Diocese
of Derry) and the awards were presented by The Very Reverend Edmund
Power OSB - Abbot of St. Paul's Outside the Walls, Rome.
The Pope John Paul II Award is for teenagers aged between 16-18
years. It requires young people to get involved in their parish
and local community. Their time given is flexible and voluntary.
The Award was first launched in the Derry Diocese by the Papal Nuncio
to Ireland, His Excellency Most Rev Dr Giuseppe Lazzarotto in November
2006.
