Given hands support to Moville women
Ireland's international goalkeeper Shay Given has praised a group
of women from the Moville area who recently staged a 24 hour fast
in aid of Trocaire's Lenten campaign for Bolivia.
The group of mothers and staff at Gaelscoil Cois Feabhail who were
"Giving it all up for Trocaire" were delighted to receive
a message of support from Given, who is fronting the charity's television
and radio campaign.
Given who recently gained his 103rd cap for Ireland in the friendly
game against Brazil at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium in London took
time out from training with his English Premier League Club Manchester
City to acknowledge the efforts of the Moville school. He said:
"I am pleased to hear that the Trocaire fast is strongly supported
in my home county of Donegal and wish Gaelscoil Cois Feabhail well
this year in their invaluable fundraising for Trocaire.
Fast organisers, Trish Hegarty and Breege Reynolds took part in
the 24 hour fundraiser with school principal Alicia Nic Fhearain
and mothers Tina Gormley, Cathy Doherty, Teresa Gillen, Teresa McGuinness,
Sarah Frizzell and teacher Grainne Nic Robhartaigh.
The group is well on their way to their target of €1000 for
Bolivia where 64% of the 9.8million population live in poverty,
rising to 70% in rural areas. The UN has warned of an acute food
crisis there due to crop loss from floods and droughts.
