Cooley Cross Clean Up Under Way

The Cooley Cross Heritage Development Committee along with the help of local volunteers and the Moville FAS scheme are making excellent progress in their efforts to restore and clean up the Moville Cooley Cross and the Cooley Graveyard.

Works began at the site in early February when the Moville FAS scheme began clearing the overgrown graveyard for the Development Committee to begin restoring the area. Along with the help of volunteers the team have been able to uncover some old and even some new undiscovered gravestones. One of these gravestones is believed to be over 1000 years old. A number of items located at the site are currently being examined by archeologists to determine their historical significance.
