MARCH 2010
"Clonmany Coastline" book recently launched in Ballyliffin
A new book telling the story of the Clonmany coastline has just
been launched.
Containing folktales, songs, stories of shipwrecks and other losses,
as well as a section on the food of the sea and how to cook it,
"The Clonmany Coastline" was commissioned by the Clonmany
Town Renewal Committee with funding from the Inishowen Development
Partnership and the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural
Resources.
Prominent in the book is a series of interviews with local fishermen
and these are offered to to the people of Clonmany as a reminder
of a dying way of life.
The book was designed, compiled and written by Rosemarie Doherty,
archaeologist, historian and native of the area. The book was launched
by local and former Irish Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary
Mr James A. Sharkey.
His Excellency Mr Sharkey has written the foreword to the book and
in this has complimented the fortitude, endurance and eloquence
of those from the coastal community of Clonmany who have gone before.
