Inishowen Musicians Nominated for top Award
Local musicians The Henry Girls have been nominated for one of
the most prestigious awards Ireland has to offer. The three sisters,
Joleen, Karen and Lorna McLaughlin, from Malin, have been nominated
in the Original Score category at the 7th Annual Irish Film and
Television Awards.
The girls have been nominated for their music which was featured
in the film "A Shine of Rainbows" which was filmed around
the Inishowen peninsula in 2008. Not only is the nomination a boost
for the girls and the film, it also helps the peninsula as a whole
and will now be given great coverage on the national and international
stage.
This nomination is a wonderful achievement for the girls as it was
their first time to write music for a film. The band were discovered
by the cast and crew of the "A Shine of Rainbows" film
whilst performing their weekly Wednesday sessions in The Persian
Bar, Carndonagh and from there they were asked to do the music for
the film.
The award ceremony will take place in The Burlington Hotel in Dublin
on Saturday 20th February and will be hosted by actress Victoria
Smurfit.
