APRIL 2010
'Books, Nature and lots of Fun!'
There was no shortage of enthusiasm in Moville on Thursday March
25th at the talk entitled "Exploring Nature with Children:
The Seashore" in the Caiseal Mara Hotel. The event was hosted
by Moville Library and speaker, local resident and zoologist Dr.
Trish Murphy, gave an introduction to the local wildlife that can
be found around the shores of East Inishowen. The talk featured
a slide presentation and a nature table with locally gathered specimens.
Free literature and posters were provided by Gerard Duddy from Moville
library.
On Saturday morning March 27th Dr. Murphy led a colourful group
of enthusiastic parents and children on a ramble along the Moville
Shore path starting at Lafferty's Lane. The children explored the
rock pools finding blennies and sea slaters, green shore crabs and
sea anemones. The children excitedly watched the anemones feed on
rashers and baited shells with dog food. Dr. Murphy answered a range
of questions from the children and talked about things to do on
the shoreline while still being respectful of the environment. An
interesting and fun filled morning for all!
