High Hopes for Greencastle Girl in European Championships
Greencastle girl, Niamh McLaughlin is bidding for European glory
with the Republic of Ireland U17 soccer squad which travels to Ukraine
this month to take part in the UEFA Championships.
The Irish girls have been placed in a tough qualifying group of
Sweden, Poland Ukraine with only one team eventually getting through
to the semifinals of the competition.
Irish coach Noel King is confident of the girls progression as
long as they play to their full potential. He said, "There's
no doubt about how tough this competition is. We have a very experienced
squad as a lot of the players have been with us for a couple of
seasons. We can only benefit from that experience which will give
us every chance of progressing but chance and achievement are to
very different things at this level."
The girls will be begin their campaign against hosts Ukraine, followed
by the games against Sweden & Poland.
