MARCH 2011

"A Shine of Rainbows" comes homes

Inishowen audiences will get their chance to see an acclaimed film shot here in 2008 as it screens in Buncrana this week. "A Shine of Rainbows" which was filmed around the peninsula will be screened in St. Mary's Hall Cinema on Tuesday 22nd & Wednesday 23rd March at 8.15pm.

The movie stars Hollywood actors Aidan Quinn and Caroline Neilson and is "a story about the power of love, about finding acceptance, discovering ourselves and realising that rainbows are all around us - and within us too." It focuses on the life of Tomas, a shy eight-year-old orphan who is adopted by Maire O'Donnell (Neilson) and her reticent husband Alec (Quinn).

The film features a number of local people as extras and showcases Inishowen in all its glory, with Lagg Beach and Five Finger Strand featuring prominently. Speaking about why the peninsula was chosen as the location for the film, producer Kim Roberts revealed they "could not have found a better location in terms of people who were open to a film crew working amongst them."

Producer Tina Pehme added the "visual grandeur" of the peninsula was "stunning on camera" and director Vic Sarin explained how those who have seen the film "come up to me and say "where did you find that place?."
