MAY 2007
Where The Land Meets The Sea
In co-operation with and supported by the Cultural Councils of
Eastern Iceland and Vesteralen and Donegal County Council, Artlink
will host an International Residency, culminating in an exhibition,
from Monday 17th September to Wednesday 26th September 2007 based
in and around Artlink's Dunree Gallery. Artists will be invited
from Eastern Iceland, from Vesteralen in Norway and from Inishowen
in Ireland.
The title of the residency and exhibition will be "Edge Centring"
and invited artists will be asked to explore themes which center
on art made on or about "edges".
All invited artists hail from places that exist where the land
meets the sea, meets the sky, places where the meeting of edges
become central, places which are on the edge of countries and of
Europe, places where artists are familiar with the notion of edgeness,
places to which traditional urban centres are particularly remote.
All invited artists hail from coastal places which are warmed and
made habitable by the Gulf Stream, a moving centre that affects
all our traditional cultural activities. The Gulf Stream might thus
serve as a metaphore or inspiration for the artistic work.
Six artists will be selected, two from each of the three areas
and will have complete freedom to work in any medium, alone and/or
collaboratively during the residency. Artlink will provide materials,
studio space and practical support. Additionally an artist working
in time based media will be engaged to produce a digital artwork
that reflects the totality of the residency and will be significant
for the development of a larger project that would apply for E.U.
funding.
Artists will be expected to be in attendance from 17th to 26th
September 2007 and will be paid an attendance fee of €1,500
plus subsistence for that period.
Artlink will set up an Internet discussion board to share ideas
and thoughts in the run up to the residency. Accommodation and hospitality
will be made available from 12th September 2007 and it is hoped
that participating Artists will avail of this lead in time to acclimate
and explore.
During the residency, in keeping with Artlink's ethos, artists
will be asked to create individual education proposals that will
help to provide practical ways in which their art and art form may
be made more accessible to Artlink's user groups in the future.
Artists who might apply should:
- be educated to degree level and/or have a track record of projects
and exhibitions as evidenced by Curriculum Vitae

- be willing to collaborate, share ideas and engage in dialogue
with participating artists
