Moville School receives top marks
An Inishowen school has received top marks in a nationwide inspection.
St. Columb's National School in Moville was the only Inishowen
school chosen to take part in the inspections which involved 178
schools throughout Ireland. Inspectors praised the local school
for its work in a range of areas, including in-school management,
management of resources and quality of teaching.
St. Columb's has 33 pupils and two full-time teachers with two
visiting special education teachers. The inspector's report says
there was evidence of 'positive, collaborative working relationships'
between the board, staff and parents.
The report also highlights the 'excellent' levels of cooperation
between staff at the school. "The very warm working relationships
that exist between them are mirrored in the very happy and content
pupils presenting in both classrooms."
The inspectors visited the school on 8th November last year, although
the final report has just been released. "The quality of teaching
in this school is very good." The report states. "Teachers
conscientiously and diligently deliver a board programme to their
pupils. The multigrade class settings are managed very effectively
and an assortment of resources is used purposefully to facilitate
pupils learning.
A spokesperson for the Moville school said they were delighted
with the outcome of the inspection. "The report affirms the
good practices in our school and it was a positive experience. We
wish to thank a supportive parent body and board of management.
"Also, we wish to mention and thank the dedication of our chairman
and our auxiliary staff." A total of 178 school inspection
reports have been published on the Department of Education and Science
website alongside the responses received from the individual schools
inspected.
