Volunteers needed for Inishowen Carnival Group
Inishowen Carnival group are making an appeal for more volunteers
to come forward and help celebrate their summer-long festivities.
The group are hoping to have more members by September when they
celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Flight of the Earls.
Board member, Bauke Vanvdermeijden said the committee want to make
the Flight of the Earls celebration one of their best shows to date,
but in order to maximise full use of the group's costumes and props,
they need to attract more members, "We have so many things
going on over the summer, but for this event we need more members.
We have been planning this event for a very long time. Because we
need two to three hundred performers it is not a parade, it is going
to be more like a performance with different costumes so everything
is going to be coming out of the closet. We are taking everything
down there to show people what the group can do. We need a lot of
people for this to come and join in, because like the last time
- the big parade in Dublin - we had around 100 people but we are
requiring double now, so if anyone is interested in joining us we
would be delighted to hear from them".
The group are already booked up over the summer with a range of
performers across the country and even one in Liverpool, when they
are taking 40 members across the Irish sea to celebrate the Liverpool
city's 800th anniversary. The Carnival group has been asked to provide
costumes and props for 250 performers. The Beatles will of course
be featured in the performance. The group will also hope to create
an Octopuses Garden filled with psychedelic sea creatures and a
large octopus puppet.
Other sections will include a Mersey Ferry surrounded by dancing
monks and nuns, a number of huge inflatable footballs, the Liverpools
Docks through the ages and of course the iconic Liver Birds.
The group also have a number of smaller performances and events
throughout the country including trips to Lisburn this week and
Greystones in Dublin in August.

group on 074 9373375.
