Ghosts of Inishowen
Henry William, Letterkenny based student, is collecting ghost stories
for an upcoming radio programme commissioned by Inishowen Community
Radio entitled 'Ghosts of Inishowen.' He wants to hear from people
in Inishowen who are familiar with the established ghost stories
of the peninsula and would be willing to retell the tales to him.
For as long as he can remember ghost stories have fascinated him.
He's seen Ghostbusters ten times. Henry says, "I was always
into ghost stories, my grandmother would always tell them to me,
there would sometimes be old castles." An interest in the unknown
has always been with us and with TV programmes like Most Haunted
and Crossing Over show, the interest in the paranormal is as strong
today as it ever was. Henry has never seen a ghost himself, but
he keeps an open mind about such matters. He delights in hearing
ghost stories told by skilled orators, the kind found in the corner
of old traditional pubs. "I have had a few stories so far,
but I need more input, more stories to research. I would like to
get a big catalogue of stories and would like to record a few people
telling ghost stories and then do a live show."
He believes it's vital to record these stories because this rich
local folklore is being forgotten and being replaced by urban myths,
which he does not require or stories about UFO's and Little Green
Men. I really like stories explained by some genuine people who
have known them for years and are sensible with the stories."
If you have any stories to tell, you can e-mail Henry at ghostsofinishowen@yahoo.ie.
If you have any letters or pictures these should be sent to ICR
FM in Carndonagh.
