MAY 2008
Fundraiser for Leratong Hospice in Pretoria
The missionary priest seriously wounded in a gun attack last year
at a hospice he founded in October 2004, in South Africa is to attend
a fundraising event in Donegal next Month.
Belfast-born Fr. Kieran Creagh, a member of the Passionist Order,
was attacked by an armed gang at the Leratong Hospice in Pretoria.
He was shot twice after answering the door to what he thought was
a patient and had to undergo emergency surgery to remove a bullet
from his lung. The other bullet went through his arm.
He was named Irish International Personality of the Year after
volunteering to be injected with a trial HIV vacine. The fundraising
lunch in aid of the hospice, which is totally dependent on voluntary
funds, is being organised with the support of the Donegal Hospice
Committee, and will take place in Jackson's Hotel, Ballybofey at
1pm on 8th June.
A spokesperson for the organisers of the event said "Any help
and support with this fundraiser will indeed by very much appreciated
by all concerned. This will be a very entertaining afternoon with
the Derry Jazz Quartet and comedian Joe Cauley in attendance. A
table of ten for the event costs €500 while individual tickets
are available at €50 each. If you would like to make a donation
etc, contact Dr. Anne Doherty (Callaghan) Education Officer, Donegal
Hospice, telephone 00447850 793257 or Grace Boyle on 086 803 2954.
