MAY 2008

Charity event a great success

The Beauty Salon in James Street, Moville, took part in Marie Keating's Beauty in Pink week on Saturday 3rd May. By the end of the day €1,400 had been raised for the Foundation, set up by the family of Ronan Keating's mother, who died of breast cancer.

Proprietor Rosemarie Adie, said "The day started off slowly, but by the afternoon the crowds started to come in. We spent the morning doing treatments and in the afternoon there was free wine and food, the food was provided by the Point. We got some men coming too and were pleased with that. I phoned Ronan Keating's sister Linda and asked if Ronan would come up for Beauty in Pink week, but he was busy, but we got a signed photo and a hat that he wore in concert.

Rosemarie said she contacted the Marie Keating Foundation about running the charity event because she was alarmed at the number of local women contracting cancer. "Since I moved back here three years ago, I know of six or seven women who've got cancer. I wanted to take part in Beauty in Pink week in order to raise awareness for the foundation. I hope one day they will have enough money to provide a mobile screening unit.

In October Rosemarie and her friend Ethna Doherty aim to climb Britain's highest peak, Ben Nevis, to raise further funds for the charity.
