MARCH 2008
Film to be shot in Inishowen
A massive new movie "A Shine of Rainbows" is to be filmed
in Inishowen. The family film will be produced by James Flynn who
produced the internationally renowned "Angela's Ashes and The
Wind That Shakes the Barley". It will be directed by Emmy award
winning Vic Sarin and set in some of the peninsula's most picturesque
locations. Shooting is due to begin 21st April. The movie, which
will be a massive economic impact on the peninsula as it has a budget
of six million euro and three million of this is intended to be
spent locally, features areas around Malin Head, the Isle of Doagh,
Leenan and Bucrana.
A Shine of Rainbows is based on the novel of the same name by English
writer Lillian Beckwith. According to Sepia Films' official website
the film focuses on a shy and frail eight year old boy named Thomas.
He has been living in a desolate orphanage since his grandmother's
death and is being teased by the other children. Visit website www.sepiafilms.com
Aideen Doherty from the Donegal Film Commission said "It will
be shot over 12 weeks and 66 people will be involved. John Ross
Hubbard is doing the casting and the producers said they are looking
to cast 'island people'. There will be an open casting session at
some stage. It's a great coup for us and hopefully will lift Inishowen
as well."
