Carndonagh Carnival Group to be Lead Pageant in St. Patrick's
Day Parade, Dublin
Kevin O'Neill, Development worker of the Carndonagh based Carnival
group spoke about the exciting times ahead for the Group. "As
a result of the high quality of performances we have produced over
the last years and following an excellent response to designs for
our new "exuberant and inflatable" production EUREKA,
this year we have been invited for the very first time to be Lead
Pageant in the Dublin St. Patrick's Day Parade on Monday 17th March.
Last year was a busy year for the group, which saw them present
carnival parades in both London and Liverpool in addition to their
schedule of Irish performances. According to Kevin this year the
props will be larger, the costumes even more exquisite and the group
will try to push the performance levels even further. "The
soundtrack for the piece will be high energy dance music played
through mobile PAs and we are looking for 80 energetic and enthusiastic
people to bring the piece to life on the streets of Dublin.
An invite to London's St. Patrick's Day Parade, which will be held
on the 16th March, is another one of the many exciting projects
being planned for 2008 by the Carndonagh based Inishowen Carnival
Group. Up to 30 performers travelling to London on Saturday 15th
March, performing there on Sunday 16th March and flying to Dublin
that night for the main parade on Monday 17th March. "This
will be a hectic schedule for everyone involved but following last
year's highly successful experience the trip is sure to be a memorable
one."
The group have received additional funding from the Arts Council
of Ireland to design a large outdoor spectacle in collaboration
with artists and performance companies across the North West of
Ireland. The designs will be completed in June 2008 at which point
the group will seek further funding to create performances across
the North West region in 2009. "We are keen to work with artists
and groups across the North West as well as encouraging local talent
in Inishowen We hope that by pooling resources and skills of groups
across the region we will be able to produce carnival performances
and spectacle of ever increasing quality opening up possibilities
for higher profile performances in Ireland, UK and eventually in
mainland Europe." Kevin added that the Group is hugely grateful
for the increasing support they receive from the Arts Council of
Ireland, Donegal County Council and from St. Patrick's Festival
Dublin without whom the group would not be able to continue its
annual programme of events.
If you are an individual or a dance/performer group anywhere in
the North West region and you fancy dancing merrily down the streets

inflatable costume and if you are able to attend dance and performance
