Inishowen Projects awarded €45,000
Inishowen Women's Information Network has been allocated a grant
of €25,000 from the Department of Foreign Affairs' Reconciliation
Fund, to help women in rural Inishowen tackle experiences of isolation.
Deputy Cecilia Keaveney, T.D. said the funding for Inishowen Women's
information Network was in recognition of their "great work".
"This group is a vital resource to the women in the Inishowen
peninsula. They have been working with a partner group in Northern
Ireland to develop a cross border programme aimed at building links,
creating awareness and understanding of traditions and cultures
and develop a supportive network on a cross border basis.
While their aim is to deliver an eight week programme which involves
much greater financial costs, the Minister for foreign Affairs acknowledges
their great work and innovative project by granting this funding
which will go towards wages to enable the group to continue to operate
until they can put their funding in place.
The Cross Border Celtic European Festival of the Sea which is taking
place at present, (22nd May - 4th June) has been awarded €20,000
by the same fund. Deputy Cecilia Keaveney, T.D. welcomed the funding.
"This is an innovative cross border programme and the money
will go towards the retention of the existing staff until mainstream
funding becomes available in 2007. This will certainly alleviate
the pressure on the team and they can continue to focus all their
efforts on the successful delivery of the festival.
