Inishowen Artist elected to Aosdána
A former LYIT student has been elected to Aosdána, the highest
artistic accolade in Ireland. Sean Fingleton was born in Malin in
1950. He studied English and Philosophy at UCD and then undertook
a painting course at the Regional College, now LYIT, where he was
taught by Eddie O'Kane, Lecturer in Fine Art, and he graduated in
1979. Fingleton then studied at the National College of Art and
Design in Dublin.
Sean's work is regularly exhibited in Donegal at the Cavanacor
Gallery, Lifford, where his former lecturer is a Director. Sean
's contribution to Irish Art has been regularly acknowledged and
he has received a number of awards including the Independent Artists
Painting Bursary, GPA Emerging Artists Award, Fergus O'Ryan RHA
Memorial Award and he is twice prize winner in the Claremorris Open
Exhibition.
