Stephen Joyce's Book 'Golden Days in Inishowen' goes Stateside
Stephen Joyce's Dyslexia Campaign got a major boost last week with
two American companies coming on board to promote his book, 'Golden
Days in Inishowen; and the Dyslexia campaign in the USA.
Speaking from Glasgow Stephen said he was delighted that Irish
Books and Media of Minneapolis and Philadelphia have contacted to
distribute the books across the USA and the author has also agreed
to allow another major American publishing company to publish and
reprint the book in Irish.
Stephen said, "I am so thankful to the people of Inishowen
and the local shops and businesses who helped get the first 1000
books sold. It is also very encouraging that the books are now in
all the libraries in the 26 counties and of course, Donegal County
Libraries were the first to buy a bulk supply, and the others followed.
The books are now in libraries from Cork to Moville."
Stephen explained that it was an American publishing agent at a
trade fair in Dublin who spotted the book and took a copy back to
America. He said "The company liked the idea of the Donegal
reminiscences and the Scots - Irish connection especially - and
the rest is history."
"I am looking forward to the book being translated into Irish
and I will always be thankful to Jimmy McBride who helped me with
the short Irish extracts I put into the first print of the book."
Stephen said he is also delighted that the books will be used in
schools in Ireland and Scotland, with special extracts and activities
for the pupils to explore their shared Celtic culture through the
stories, poems, and songs in the book. "I hope that using the
book in different ways in schools, we can renew some of the connection
with Scotland which were so important fifty years ago. It would
be excellent if we can get Scots and Irish youngsters meeting in
exchanges to share experiences as citizens of Europe in an Ireland
that is preserving its own culture and at the same time welcoming
people from different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Books and information on the campaign is available in local shops
and from Inishowen Tourism, Carndonagh, Easons bookshops, www.amazon.co.uk
or by contacting Stephen on email at stephen@prideofscotlandpublications.com
