MARCH 2006
Local Groups urged to apply for funding
Moville based T.D. Cecilia Keaveney has urged local groups with
experience of working in the area of suicide prevention or in a
related area to apply for funding made available under Dorman Accounts
funding. "Suicide is a big issue in Ireland. It is therefore
of great interest that Suicide Prevention is a specific measure
under the Social and Economic Disadvantage Category of the 2006
round of Dormant Accounts funding. Up to €1 million has been
allocated for this Measure." She said.
Deputy Keaveney who said that a public call for applications under
this measure was made on 10th March 2006 added that the closing
date is Friday 5th May at 5pm. She explained that applications are
invited from locally based community and voluntary groups who have
experience of working in the area of suicide prevention or in a
related area." Clarifying the issue Deputy Keaveney continued:
"The process is being managed by Pobal on behalf of the Department
of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and the Department of
Health and Children. Further information on applying for funding,
forms and Guidelines are available from the Pobal website www.pobal.ie
I would encourage those who feel that they could avail of this measure
to act now." She suggested that further announcements are expected
soon in relation to some of the other measures under the heading
of Social and Economic Disadvantage. "In relation to the funding
for Education Disadvantage and Persons with a Disability, the work
in both the Departments of Education and Science and Health and
Children is being finalised and it is expected that specific measures
will be submitted to Government for consideration shortly."
concluded Deputy Keaveney.
