Irish Bridal Designer of the Year
Jen Doherty, Buncrana Designer, was named Irish Bridal Designer
of the Year 2006 in Jury's Hotel, Dublin, at a recent fashion awards
ceremony, which was hosted by Irish Brides magazine. Jen scooped
the main prize of the event, in which thirty bridal designers took
part. She also took the prestigious romantic category. "I was
completely overwhelmed to hear my name a second time after already
receiving an award for the romantic category. She Said.
The judges expressed great excitement with Jen's designs. Niall
Tyrrell of Oakes said of the winning dress: "This has real
1950s glamour with red-carpet appeal". Other judges included
Constance Harris, Fashion Editor of The Sunday Independent and Aoife
Ni Thuairisg, host of TG4's popular Paisean Faisean. The dress appeared
on RTE's The Afternoon Show in the Build up to the competition.
The overall winning creation is a stunning winter white satin dress
with a bias cut and an elegant low scooped back, all of which is
set off by a bustle and train. The romantic category winner is a
classical ivory French lace dress with an open back.
Since 1996, Jen has brought high fashion to the bridal industry.
Each of Jen's gowns are unique and individual creations. Mastery
of cut, attention to detail and uncompromising quality are the hall
marks of a Jen Doherty dress. This balance is completed by using
the finest materials from Europe's top fabric providers. Jen says
that, "The most challenging thing is translating your ideas
into something real that does justice to your vision. She now plans
to build on these recent endorsements and continue her business
expansion in Dublin.
