Cancer Care Group to meet Health Service executives

Donegal Action for Cancer Care has been invited by Health Service Executive (HSE) to attend meeting to discuss the provision of beast cancer services in the North West.

The Health Service Executive has invited the co-chairpersons of DACC, Noelle Duddy and John Day to attend a meeting on Monday 16th January 2006, in their head office at Parkgate, Dublin.

The invitation was issued from the office of the CEO, in response to a request from DACC for a meeting to discuss the provision of breast cancer services in the North West.

The following individuals are also expected to attend: Mr Tommie Martin: National Director of the office of the CEO: Mr Patrick McLaughlin: National Director of the NHO: Mr Patrick Doorley: National Director of Population Heath: Mr Alan Moran: Network Manager, North West; The Chairpersons and Secretaries of the Medical Boards in Letterkenny and Sligo Hospitals: Mr Kevin Moran: Consultant General Surgeon, Letterkenny General Hospital (LGH) and representatives from Cancer Services LGH names to be confirmed.

DACC wrote to the Chief Executive Officer of the HSE. Professor Drumm on 19th December 2005 requesting this meeting "and we welcome the prompt response of the Office of the CEO", said co-chairperson, Noelle Duddy. "Whilst is is our understanding that Professor Drumm himself will not be attending this meeting, we are satisfied that all the relevant parties with an interest in breast cancer services in the NW will be in attendance." she added. Noelle also said that DACC is pleased that at last it will be sitting round a table, discussing the provision of cancer services in Donegal with HSE Directors who are charged with the responsibilities to provide a fluent, comprehensive multidisciplinary cancer service to the people of Donegal. "DACC expect that this meeting will be the first of many." she concluded.
