Funding approved for Moville Playground as public appeal is launched
Moville Playground Group have now been approved for funding of
over €92,000 to build both Phase 1 and 2 of the new playground
for the town.
Catherine Falls, Playground Group Chairperson, says "We're
absolutely delighted with the funding. This leaves us with a shortfall
of just €3,000 which we hope to raise in the next week, with
an envelope drop appeal in the area. If we get enough money from
this appeal, then work could start on the playground next month,
so it could be finished for the summer holidays."
According to the Moville Group, €66,500 came from the County
Council-led Peace II Task Force, which will go towards the first
phase of the scheme, aimed at 2 to 8 year olds. The second grant
of €26,000 comes from Inishowen Rural Development Limited (IRDL),
for Phase II of the project which will cater for 8 to 12 year olds.
Gary Martin, Secretary of the Peace II Task Force, says they are
"very pleased to be associated with this project, which will
provide much needed infrastructure for the children of Moville."
Andrew Ward IRDL Manager says they were very encouraged by the efforts
of the Playground Group in working to address the needs of their
own community. "It's great to see a local community take an
initiative like this and driving it forward". For the group
themselves getting the funding to build all of the scheme this year
means they won't have to take on another few years of fundraising
for Phase 2. The group's PRO Trish Hegarty says "Getting both
grants this year means we can build a playground for children of
all ages, not just the younger ones. We can't believe how fortunate
we've been to secure funding for the entire project almost in one
go. If we can just raise the money needed to cover the shortfall,
our children will have this fabulous new playground by the end of
June."
An envelope drop to homes in Moville and the surrounding villages
and townlands is being organised by Liam Skelly, the groups fundraising
co-ordinator. " As a group we have done as much as we can to
secure the funding needed for this project but we now need help
from the community to raise the last few thousand needed to get
this playground built. We have to put up a certain amount of money
ourselves to draw down the full amount of this grant aid."
said Liam. The envelopes will be delivered to the doors over the
next few days, and collected by volunteers on behalf of the Playground
Group from next weekend.
The Group thanked Inishowen councillors and the council's Community
and Enterprise Department for their help in securing the Peace II
funding, and said they were grateful to both their funders for the
grand aid approved.
