MARCH 2009

Donegal Walking Week 2009

Donegal Walking Week 24th - 30th May promises to be a key event on the walking calendar, this years theme is 'The Family' with the organisers hoping to get as many people as possible walking and exploring the beautiful Donegal countryside.

The week will kick off on Sunday 24th at the Bluestack Centre with a family walk which will also include other related activities including archery, outdoor skills and a display from Donegal Mountain Rescue. The week will also end with another major event on the grounds of Glenveagh Castle on Saturday 30th May where a full programme of family events will take place. This year’s walks will also include a family challenge details of which will be released shortly.

The week will also include some workshops on FitWalking, which are 2.5 hour long and focus on walking for fitness and include practical solutions on getting the most from your walk.

Leave No Trace also makes a welcome return to Walking Week with workshops planned on the outdoor ethics programme.

We would like to encourage communities to get in contact with us if they are interested in registering a walk or in hosting any of our workshops during walking week. We would also ask that you do this as soon as possible as we intend to compile the printing of our walking booklet by 30th March.

We also intend to host an information evening and launch of the programme at the Gartan Outdoor Education Centre on Wednesday 8th April at 7.30pm and you are all invited to attend.
