New Inishowen Tourist Bus Trail

The summer sees the launch of the first ever dedicated Inishowen Tourist Bus Trail. Following on the success of the recently launched Inishowen Rural Transport Programme, this new pilot service, developed by Inishowen Development Partnership in conjunction with Inishowen Tourism, will operate every Saturday and Sunday for 10 weeks commencing 4th July until Sunday 13th September 2009.

The purpose of this pilot service is to offer visitor and locals in the Northwest the chance to see and experience the magnificent sights of Inishowen by bus, with a tour guide, for an all-inclusive fare of €28pp (includes Attraction Admission, Lunch, Tour Guide and Travel).

Passengers can relax and listen to live commentary on the local history and folklore of the area while taking in breathtaking view of some of the most spectacular seascapes and sighs of the Peninsula. Some key attractions include Fort Dunree Military Museum with exclusive military artifacts and wildlife exhibition, the mystical setting of Mamore Gap and the spectacular 30ft water plunge at Glenveigh Waterfall. Witness the contrast of changing Ireland 1800's to 2009 at Doagh Famine Village and view Europe's largest sand dunes at Lagg from the knockamaney Bens. Then there is Malin Head, Ireland's most northerly point with view of the Scottish Western Isles of Jura and Islay, Inishtrahull Island and Tory Island. Kinnagoe Bay where the shipwrecked Spanish Armada vessel La Trinidad Valencia was discovered and Inishowen Maritime Museum and Planetarium at Greencastle with its extensive collection of maritime memorabilia plus lots more.

Explore Inishowen Bus Trail leaves the Derry Visitor Convention Bureau, Foyle Street, Derry at 10.30am Saturday and 10am Sunday with collection stops at An Grianan Hotel Burt and Inishowen Gateway Hotel, Buncrana (Sunday Tour includes collection stop at Ballyliffin Hotel and Strand Hotel, Ballyliffin).
