Carnival group still seeks new volunteers
Inishowen Carnival Group are still looking for young people and
adults interested in taking part in the first Earagail Arts Festival
parade for many years which is taking place in Letterkenny on Sunday
12th July.
According to spokesperson for the group, Kevin O'Neill, they already
have a host of dance and community groups taking part from Letterkenny,
Derry and from across Donegal but would still welcome groups and
individuals who want to join the spectacle with over 300 performers
taking to the streets on the day.
"The parade kicks off at the An Grianan Theatre in Lettekenny
at 1pm making its way up the Main Street before turning round and
winding its way back to the theatre where multicultural refreshments
will be available to participants after the parade. Places are available
for dancers, performers, flag carriers, prop pushers and puppet
carriers.
"The Carnival Group spokesman said the group was looking for
anyone who fancies taking part including families, young people
and adults and we have a variety of ways people can get involved.
"For those who like performing we have a variety of colourful
costumes to dress up in and flags to wave. Volunteers who want to
help but don't want to be in the parade could help with face painting
performers on the day and there is also work for the sturdier types
who are happy to help carry larger flags and puppets and push the
heavier props."
He said that participants will get the thrill of performing in
the biggest spectacle in the North West this summer including large
puppets, flags flowing back packs, percussion bands, dance troupes
and a New Orleans Jazz band.
Meanwhile Mr. O'Neill said that the second week of July is a busy
time at the Inishowen Carnival offices in Carndonagh as they are
also running their annual Carnival kids Summer Camp between 6th
and 10th July with a new tutor team of Siobhan Shiels and Edel Doherty
taking all the classes during the week. "With many years of
performing with the carnival, leading the Inishowen Gospel Choir
and studying music and performance at Magee University, Siobhan
is sure to bring a wealth of singing knowledge and performance to
the summer camp. Edel Doherty is a teacher who has also been involved
in many carnival and gospel choir events and will lead the art classes
during the camp," he said.
For more information on either of these projects contact Kevin
O'Neill, Inishowen Carnival Group at 9373375.
